About Maison Mouton
Maison Mouton Bed & Breakfast is a 12-room bed and breakfast in downtown Lafayette, LA, offering a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of the city while still being centrally located. Originally built in 1820, the inn resides in a restored Creole house nestled on a quiet street in the Sterling Grove Historic District.
The buildings that surround the main property are a collection of quaint cottages nestled along an alley of ancient oak trees and surrounded by lush gardens, allowing guests to get lost in the tranquility of the South.
Lafayette is where I went to school, built my career and found the support that made much of what I have achieved possible. The generosity and support of its people inspired me to give something meaningful back to the community. Restoring Maison Mouton was guided by that purpose: to preserve an important piece of Lafayette’s history through adaptive reuse while creating a sustainable business capable of supporting the property’s continued care. My hope is that Maison Mouton will remain a treasured part of the city for generations to come.
In the late 1800s, the railroad brought growth and prosperity to the communities it served. Over time, however, railroad tracks became dividing lines in many American cities—including Lafayette—separating neighborhoods by race, wealth, and development. For the past ten years, my mission has been to help bridge that divide by creating meaningful reasons for people to cross the tracks, experience this historic neighborhood, and appreciate an important part of Lafayette’s heritage.
